Dyatlov Pass

I spent a good portion of my childhood reading about things like UFOs and ghosts. Yeah, I know. Explains a lot, doesn’t it? One of my earliest school memories is the disappointment I felt when I lost a scrapbook of articles about the UFO sightings in Piedmont, MO in the early 1970s. So I was quite surprised last week when, for the first time, I read an account of the Dyatlov Pass Incident. It came to my attention via a link to a San Francisco Gate article. Briefly, in 1959 a group of Russian skiers camped overnight in the Ural mountains. In the middle of the night, they apparently rushed out of their tents in various states of undress, and were subsequently killed by mysterious forces.

The SF Gate article and another on Wikipedia have good summaries of the basic details and speculations, and a longer piece from the St. Petersburg Times has much more detail.

The case remains unsolved to this day.
